Forty-eight grams. That is the number that defines this device.

The G4 Pro weighs 78g, the G5 weighs 65g. The G3 is lighter than both by a margin you feel immediately, and at 13.9mm thick it genuinely disappears into a pocket. If you have tried a pod kit and found it too bulky to carry properly, this is the one that solves that.

It gives up some capability to get there, and that trade is worth understanding before you buy.

Airflow by rotating the pod

There is no slider. Instead you pull the pod out, turn it 180 degrees, and put it back. One orientation gives a tighter mouth-to-lung draw, the other gives an airier restricted direct lung.

It is simple and it works, but it is two positions rather than a continuous range. The G4 Pro and G5 both have stepless sliders. If you like adjusting your draw constantly, those suit you better. If you set it once and leave it, this is fine.

Three firing modes

Auto-draw, button only, or both. Most devices force you into one. Being able to switch matters more than it sounds: auto-draw is convenient, button-only prevents pocket firing, and both gives you either as the situation suits.

The device also has mechanical vibration alerts, so you get physical feedback rather than having to look at the screen.

OLED with smart pod detection

The screen shows puff count, battery, coil resistance, wattage and which firing mode you are in.

More usefully, the circuitry reads the pod you have fitted and stops you raising the wattage past what that pod can handle. You cannot burn a coil by setting it too high, which on a device aimed partly at newcomers is a sensible piece of design.

Seven colours

Black, Grey, Silver, Blue, Green, Red and Pink. The body is aluminium alloy with PCTG, and it feels solid despite the weight.

900mAh, charges in half an hour

Twenty percent more than the G2, and reviewers report a full day at 18W on the 0.6Ω pod. Charging at 2A takes roughly 25 to 40 minutes, which is quick enough that you can top up over a coffee.

Three pod resistances

FeCrAl mesh integrated coils at 0.6Ω, 0.9Ω and 1.2Ω. The 0.6Ω is the cloud pod, and one reviewer noted being surprised at the vapour it produced for a 25W device, to the point of switching from salt nic to 70/30 freebase on it. The 0.9Ω is the proper MTL option and reviewers rate its flavour above the G2’s 0.8Ω coil.

One honest limitation

The coils are built into the pods and cannot be replaced separately. When a coil goes, the whole cartridge goes. That is standard across the Caliburn G range now, but it does mean a higher running cost than a device with replaceable coils.

G3, G4 Pro or G5?

How to use

Charge fully before first use. Fill the pod from the side, leaving a small air gap, and let a new pod soak for five to ten minutes before your first puff. Set your wattage on the OLED and pick your firing mode. For a looser draw, remove the pod, rotate it 180 degrees and reinsert it.

Use 50/50 e-liquid on the 0.9Ω and 1.2Ω pods. The 0.6Ω handles 70/30 freebase well if you want more vapour.
